Women seek flexibility when it comes to selecting a university while men choose international recognition, says a national survey of postgraduate expectations.

| Photo: www.kent.ac.uk | Although only 28 percent of the women in the study had children, and 50 percent of the men had family obligations, the study found that women liked to keep their options open due to changes or additions to family. They preferred to search for schools that offered long distance learning or flexible class hours.
The research, based on responses of more than 800 people considering postgraduate studies, also found that women made decisions based on hard fact and analysis, while men valued their mates‘ opinions.
The key motivation for those adults returning to school was enhanced career prospects and increased income, with an expected pay increase of 25 percent.
But only six percent expected it from an internal promotion, rather than leaving the company altogether for a better job.
The study also found that only six percent said their employer was covering the costs of their education. |
